Interview with Tera Sue

If you haven't met Tera from Tera Sue yet, I know you're going to love her! She's a fun gal who blogs about arts + crafts, DIYs and other bits of her life as a newlywed in Southern California. If you are familiar with Tera Sue, read on, I've asked her some 'getting to know you' questions today and I bet you learn something new!
Can you share a little about yourself and your blog?
I am a busy lady with a 9-5 job as a Web Producer at Disney and a passion for creating handmade jewelry and art. I live in Southern California with my new husband, Ryan, and our two dogs, Elvira (dachshund) and Denali (German Sheppard/Rottweiler). I love horror movies, pink things, gaudy jewelry, making people laugh and any creature with fur.

Tera Sue is a crafty lifestyle blog where I share most things from my day to day life (don't worry, I cut out the boring bits). My favorite topics are: craft and DIY projects, handmade jewelry, art and fashion!
You're a creative lady! What inspires you?
I'm inspired by so many things and people. My parents are both very creative and paved the way for my creativity. My dad is a a great cartoon artist and metal worker (he created the arbor I was married under) and my mom is an incredible crocheter and interior designer. From a very young age my parents encouraged my creativity and they continue to inspire me to learn new techniques and perfect my craft.

Through his music and writing, my husband is also a big inspiration. As a horror author he has had great success with seven published novels and multiple movie deal propositions. He is always supporting me in my crafting and art and is the person I always go to when I need to bounce ideas off of someone.
I love your fun attitude to life, you clearly enjoy making those around you smile. What's the craziest thing you've done to surprise someone?
Nothing makes me happier than to make people smile. Whether it's by posting outtake photos of myself or turning work emails into goofy poems for my coworkers, I'm always trying to get a laugh.

The craziest thing I've done to surprise someone has to be the birthday gift I gave my husband this year. When he was on tour with his band for a week I had my parents help me decorate a special space in our house that is now his "man den". It took a couple weeks of secretly purchasing items and storing them at my parents' house, and two days of painting, hanging and arranging. When he returned from tour and saw the den his jaw dropped and he started shouting, "I love my WIFE!" I'm going to have trouble topping that next year!

Since you love horror movies, can you share your favourite(s) and give us a little reason why you chose them? (mine is The Shining by Stanley Kubrick!)
I also love The Shining. My grandparents used to manage a retirement complex that had a club house. It was this old building that was super creeky and creepy and I used to play around like Danny except unfortunately there were no twins begging me to play with them.

It's really difficult to narrow my list down, but here's my best shot:
1. Nightmare on Elm Street because Freddy was my favorite villain as a kid.
2. S.I.C.K. (Serial Insane Clown Killers) because it is SOOOO bad. I have a special place in my heart for terrible movies that tried really hard to be good movies and failed.
3. Midnight Meat Train. I actually had the pleasure of interviewing Clive Barker about this movie and he was so passionate. The story was so different than all the torture porn that was flooding the theaters at the time and I always appreciate original stories.
4. Evil Dead II because it has gore and a sense of humor which are two of my favorite things
5. Pretty much all Asian horror films. They just do it right! A few notable movies are: Wild Zero, Suicide Club, Battle Royal, Lady Vengeance and Old Boy
6. Lucio Fulci's Zombie because a zombie BITES A SHARK! I think that speaks for itself.
7. Cujo because it was the first horror movie my parents ever let me watch. I promised them I wouldn't have nightmares. I did, but I never told my parents because I wanted to keep watching scary movies.

Speaking of favourites, what's your favourite foood?
Sushi. I met my husband (I just realized I talk about him a lot!) at a sushi restaurant so I think it brings me good luck.
drink?
Wine. I love a nice glass of wine at the end of a long week with my family.
way to relax?
Beading or going down to my parents' boat. They are docked in a pretty cool location and every time we take the boat out we see dolphins!
Do you have any advice for our readers who are interested in leading a creative life?
My advice is have patience, accept criticism and be brave. Crafting takes up a lot of time and not everything you make is going to turn out exactly how you imagined, but that's the beauty of handmade! If you're patient you will enjoy it. If you're not you will likely pull your hair out. because art and creativity is subjective, not everyone is going to like what you're creating and that's OK. Instead of getting emotional about it, take criticism and turn it into something constructive by learning a new technique or making small tweaks to the pieces that aren't working. And finally, be brave enough to try new things. When I started making jewelry I never imagined I'd be able to make some of the necklaces I make now, but I was brave enough to try it and guess what! I love it!
Thank you Tera for spending the time to answer all of my questions! I loved learning more about you, and I am a big fan of Wild Zero too!
